Stars and Surgery

Cosmetic enhancement – surgical or none, everyone has an opinion on it. No more than the beautiful people in Hollywood whom we all look up to, admire, lust after or simply want to look like. These people are constantly in the lime light and are expected to look great at all times. But they often feel under great pressure, not just to always look perfect but they also feel they have a moral obligation to do what is right because of their great influences. As such many are divided in their opinion of cosmetic enhancements.
Cosmetic surgery and non-surgical enhancements are becoming more popular and accepted. It comes of little surprise therefore, that there have been reports that this years Oscar goody bags contained not just the usual freebies, which are often worth over $100,000 like diamonds and holidays, but also vouchers for cosmetic enhancements such as Botox. Whilst some stars will be running to their nearest clinic to cash in their vouchers others will simply be tearing them up.
Many stars have had surgery, some are proud to admit it like George Clooney, who recently told Julia Roberts in an interview that he had his eyes done. Some stars are less open, such as Victoria Beckham, who only came clean to having a breast enlargement when she sued a newspaper (though lets face it we all knew it – who was she trying to kid anyway?)
Other stars strongly disagree with the whole obsession to look perfect and eternally youthful. Such stars include Kate Winslet, Julianne Moore, Cate Blanchett and Rachel Weisz. This often makes me chuckle as it is very easy to disagree with cosmetic enhancements if you have been blessed with beautiful genes. Julianne Moore has stated that she would never have cosmetic surgery as it was something she detested. She believes that people should grow old gracefully and ageing is a fact of life. Similarly, Rachel Weiz has a great aversion towards cosmetic enhancement and believes that looking too perfect doesn’t always look sexy or beautiful. But I do wonder, would they change their minds when everything starts to head south or they are no longer picked for roles because they are not in their prime? Kate Winslet has been reported as saying that she has flirted with the idea of cosmetic surgery if she wasn’t concerned that her director husband would leave her. This is rather a turn-around as for years Kate has been quoted as disagreeing with the industry.
It seems as though there will always be a divide in the Hollywood camp as to their opinions on cosmetic enhancement. One thing is for sure, there will always be those who try to hide ever having had anything done whilst others are pleased to show off their new bodies and there will always be those who are adamant that they would never have anything done but who sooner or later have a change of heart.
